Amersham & Chiltern RFC U14s enjoy emphatic home victory in Bucks Cup Semi Final.

Congratulations to the 23 man squad that represented Amersham & Chiltern RFC in their first Bucks Cup Semi Final

From the whistle the boys played well as team and they all did their jobs, realising they must trust their comrades. The amber pods were brilliant enabling A&C to develop multiple phases, to create gaps at the edges of the Marlow defence.

Early forwards domination set up the platform for Henry Keith to charge over to open the scoring with good understanding keeping the ball alive. The forward platform from Freddie Chhabra, Oliver Marsden, Jack Hodgson and Serge Fox enabled Edward Batchelor to find space from the back of the scrum and after multiple threatening runs scoring a try of his own. Well done to Thomas Treloar for good communication at the breakdown leading to decisive pop pass to Jacob Avis who ran a great line to storm over for another first half try.

Matthew Warren lead the back line well and made some great decisions; including dummies when Marlow were up quick enabling passes around the backs of the defence and some good kicks. This enabled the centres Sammy Sinclair and George Birch both running great lines (and later Cameron Cork), to link with Piers Lane, Tommy Richardson and Joshua Fisher, gaining territory leading to tries out wide for Sammy Sinclair and James Thomas.

Let’s talk about tackling! While all players tackled well with hardly a miss all game, individual and double tackles from Alex O’Driscoll, Freddie Chhabra, Serge Fox knocked the stuffing out of the Marlow runners, who found themselves going backwards time after time. The introduction of Alex Evans, Tom Wingrove and Xavier Currill only added to Marlow’s problems from front up tackles.

In difficult conditions catching was a key area where A&C excelled with early catch returns from Piers Lane, Joshua Fisher and Thomas Trealor denying Marlow territory followed by a excellent catch by Alex Porter, which did not allow Marlow to release the pressure.

With the match won A&C then delivered an inspired defensive display in the final 5 minutes with Luke Gibson and Dylan Morgan joining the usual suspects in a tackle fest which after wave after wave of attacks lead to a penalty, which enable Matthew Warren to bring the game to an end.

Ohhh… and Sammy Sinclair ran 80 meters slipping multiple tackles for an amazing individual try half way through the second half.

Sammy Sinclair lead the scorers with two tries, Supported by Henry Keith, Jacob Avis, Edward Batchelor and James Thomas with one each. Important conversions were kicked by Joshua Fisher 1 and George Birch 2.
