Weather - A blustery autumnal morning
A&C Team – Mixed
Jake was chosen as El Capitano for the match as his father use to play for the Chinnor 1st team back in the fifties. A&C had the better of the early exchanges, with the forwards getting good hands on the ball. A lovely move had Jake breaking the gain line before offloading to Jack, and onto Easty who passed to Oscar to run in and score a wonderfully worked try - his first for the club. Devan followed up with a quite brilliant conversion in very tricky windy conditions. Chinnor kicked off and put the boys under a bit of concerted pressure, before good tackling from the forwards enabled the backs to stretch their legs before the ball worked its way to Isaac, who scored under the posts against his old team. Devan again scored the conversion , albeit a much simpler one. 14 - 0
Chinnor came at us again and after some poor rucking from the boys they barged over for their 1st try which was duly converted. 14 - 7
The team put themselves under quite a bit of pressure and kept conceding sloppy penalties, but good handling skills from Bradley and Matthew B enabled Mad Dog Jack to break the Chinnor defence before passing to Ollie to dive over in the corner for the 3rd try of the day. No conversion this time. 19 - 7
Good defence from the forwards, especially from Ethan and George, pressurised Chinnor into mistakes allowing the backs to capitalise with Huey having the important final touch for his 1st of the day. Devan scored the conversion 26-7
Chinnor came back at us, although they were a bit predictable, using their big prop to barge over. However, a missed tackle from the angelic Easty allowed said lump the opportunity to score Chinnor’s 2nd.
Half time 26 -14
Any chance of a Chinnor come back was short-lived with good support play from Charlie in the back row and running from the backs saw Huey go over for his second off the day. 31-14
More of the same followed, this time Isaac going over for his 2nd, Devan kicked the extras.
38 - 14
The boys were now rampant and in no mood to take their foot of Chinnor’s throat.
Then we were treated to a piece of champagne rugby - some scrappy play from Chinnor saw us turn them over on the halfway line with the ball popping up to the nimble Easty who side-stepped his opposite number before throwing not one, but two dummy passes, then out-pacing the fullback to score under the posts. Simply outstanding, or if you don't believe in fairies, Easty took a pass 6" away from the whitewash and fell over it. Remember they all count. 43 - 14.
More good tackling from the forwards, Harry Maskell and Harry Bradshaw flexing their muscles this time, and a try-saving tackle from Callum stopped Chinnor getting any further points on the board. We were not finished, though - more good play from the lads saw Isaac go over for his hat trick, with Devan putting the icing on the cake with another conversion.
Final score 50 - 14
