A comeback of biblical proportions?

A comeback of biblical proportions?

Weather - cold and mainly cloudy

U14 Squad - Akerman, Bradshaw, Burchett, Cohen, Crossfield, Fairley, Fulgoni, Galvin, Goldstein, Gurney, Hazel, Hennell, Hiscock, MacDonald, Nelson, Newlands, Race, Spennewyn, Woodroff Subs - Bunce, Griffiths, O'Keefe, Owen

True to form, I turned up for Sunday's match with an injured son but no pen and paper. Alas, the delightful and efficient Jacq Galvin produced both and suggested I have a go at the report.
It is traditional for the parents to compare the size of the players before the match, and Sunday was no different. They really were some big lads (or maybe I'm just getting smaller?!).
Bletchley started strongly and opened the scoring following some good continuity play. They missed the conversion.
They were the much better team in the early exchanges with only good tackles from new boys Callum and Tom Crossfield keeping the ball from going over the whitewash again.
Uncharacteristically, the usually reliable Captain Jack Gurney got side-stepped by the large and ungainly Bletchley prop.
Rumour in the grandstand put this down to the unstabling effect of a rather shabby dead cat on top of Jack's head.
A good steal by Dylan in the ruck gave the boys a bit of respite and some possession. But once again consistently poor tackling was to undo the team and we were to concede another 4 tries before half-time, only one of which was converted.

Half-time A & C 0 - 27 Bletchley

Impetus was added at half-time with the introduction of Ed Griffiths and Devan, amongst others.
The boys managed to apply a bit of pressure following some solid rucks and good runs which resulted in Ed going over for our first try in the 32nd minute, with Devan kicking the extras.
The boys seemed more confident and a superb penalty kick by debutant fly half Harry Spennywynn into the corner was just what the doctor ordered.
The boys won the line out and retained possession through a number of phases - Ed once again went over for A & C's 2nd of the day (38th minute). Again Devan put the ball through the sticks.
Then followed a little slice of brilliance started by Isaac who busted through a couple of weak Bletchley tackles and made 25 yards. Devan took the ball on and off-loaded superbly to Harry Spennewyn who scored in the corner (41st minute). No conversion this time.
Surely a comeback of biblical proportions wouldn't happen, would it?
Err no - Bletchley spoiled the party by scoring two more tries!

Final score A &C 19 - 37 Bletchley
