A great team performance

On a cold and frosty day, a game of 2 halves.

A&C B Squad – Oscar Akerman, Jack Allen, Charlie Barraclough, James Chuchman, Dylan Cohen, Adam Fairley, Matthew Fulgoni, James Galvin, Eddie Goldstein, Jack Gurney (C), William Lea, Aaron Merle, Ethan Nelson, Tom Newlands, George Newton, George O’Keefe, Ben Race, Max Woodroff

With A&C dominating the first half (leading at half time 24-5), the opposition put on a strong showing at the beginning of the second half (getting within 10 points) before a strong finish from A&C led to a final score of 40-19.

The first half started with A&C playing uphill. The opposition started strongly but following some firm defence, including some great tackling from Ben R and a try saving tackle from William L out on the wing, A&C started to make progress into the opposition half. Adam F made a strong run forwards and although that did not lead to any points it set the tone for the rest of the half. A strong run from James G with Jack G in support lead to the ball being passed to Jack A who ran in first try. We were then treated to some strong forward play culminating in James G scoring under the posts, which Matthew F converted, and scoring a second try showing his strength having been set up by a run by Tom N. A further try swiftly followed scored by George O following a strong run. At 24-0 those on the side-lines were beginning to relax however, just prior to half time, the opposition scored a try from a 5 metre scrum and having missed the conversion the half time score was 24-5.

Now playing downhill, the second half started well for A&C. James G scored his third try of the match following yet another strong run from a 5 metre scrum. Having not seen it coming the opposition scored 2 converted tries - the first conversion going over having hit the bar. Both of these tries were the result of some very strong running from a boy who looked, certainly to this scribe, not to have been involved in the first half. That said having weathered the storm A&C fought back. Jack A scored his second try of the game having been set up by a great catch on the full of a kick by the opposition by Oscar A and Jack G scored the try his strong tackling and great support play deserved following good passing amongst the team. The final try was scored by George O following sustained pressure - on the opposition line the ball came back from the forwards and Eddie G passed the ball out to George who was able to get over the line taking full advantage of the slope. The final score 40-19.

This was a strong performance by the A&C team, the forwards worked very hard and at times the ball was moving through the back fluidly. All in all a great team performance.
