Amersham and Chiltern 3XV 37-13 Old Ashmoleans 1XV
-
Old Ashmoleans 1XV were recent visitors to A&C in the league and the 3s beat them comfortably, but the away game was only a narrow 3 point win.
-
The boys were a bit subdued leading up to kick off as Matt Neill pulled a quad in the warm up and was out ! After the first few engagements it was clear OAs were going to try and rough us up as we had expected but Chiltern upped their aggression levels led by the back row and we looked dangerous on the break. Eventually the deadlock was broken by Jamie Gordon who dodged his way round under the posts after a good team move
-
The scrum was quite messy and OAs seemed to be good at disrupting it but enough clean ball was won to keep the backs running freely. Jamie Anderson attacked from fullback and inter linked well with Ed Wainwright and Jamie Gordon, making up a really pacey back 3.
-
Ed Wainwright was again on the score-sheet finishing off a wide backs move, taking him to 10 tries for the season.
-
Ed was also involved in Tom Fletcher's try, both chasing up a long kick and forcing a lineout and then quickly taking the lineout and scoring. Great awareness and skill as the ball had to be looped over the covering defenders.
-
Jack Claridge had a great game tackling and disrupting in the loose and took a ball from Luke Donnebaum who had just barged his way through a couple of players, and from 10 yards out Jack piled over for a great try. A real boost when the game had been tight.
-
Paul Sitzberger and Dan Kinsey turned over a lot of ball as a half back pairing, getting to the break down a lot of times before our massive but not so mobile pack and so Sitzy's try was from a Dan Kinsey turnover 5 yards out, a pick and go.
-
The man of the match however was Graeme Coles, our Scottish enforcer. His face is a bit of a mess today as he took a few for the team. He was king of the loose play ,disrupting and winding up the opposition, fronting up to a physical Ashmoleans team and winning lots of ball.
So the 3s can now look to the final next Saturday. It is against Harpenden 3XV and is at Harpenden who host finals day this year.
-
The 3s are well up for this game and a win would be the perfect end to a great season.
