Chiltern travelled to Windsor away for their penultimate game of the season. An exciting game full of tries which last season ended in a victory for A&C to secure the BBO1 league, this season ended in a narrow loss.
After the last two results the message was to put some pride back into the short which Chiltern certainly did.
Windsor had the edge in the first half and exposed Chiltern's defence on a few occasions. 15 minutes in and the first core was a penalty for Windsor to put them 0-3 ahead.
Chiltern struck straight back with a driving maul scored out wide, the conversion missed 5-3. It was then all Windsor for the next 15 minutes. Firstly their fly half sliced through a gap to score under the posts, converted which was followed by a penalty to make the score 5-13.
Windsor then produced a very nice try with fast hands down the line to score in the corner, well converted 5-20.
Just before half time Chiltern struck back with a try of their own through Ben Pothecary, converted by Ben Dugdale 12-20.
HT 12-20
Windsor again extended their league with a first phase move; their 15 cutting through between the Chiltern centres under the posts, converted to make the score 12-25.
Chiltern now had all the work to do and Windsor possibly could have been guilty for thinking the game was already won.
The Chiltern forwards produced some fantastic phases and worked their way up the pitch, the ball passed out quickly for Ben Pothecary to go over for his second try, converted by Ben Dugdale to close the gap to 19-25.
Within 5 minutes Chiltern pushed back into the Windsor 22 and from a lineout catch & drive, Scott Jarrold crashed over to narrow the gap to 24-25, the conversion missed.
Windsor then came back with a try for their hooker who ghosted down the wing unmarked, the conversion missed 24-30.
With minutes left Chiltern had all the possession and eventually scored out wide to make the score 29-30 with the conversion left to take. Unfortunately with a strong wind and out wide the conversion wasn't successful giving Windsor a narrow home win.
Credit to both teams for creating a great game of rugby; it was just a shame Chiltern couldn't seal the win.
