Tough Day for the 2s
By Sam Wheeler
Long away day and not much to show for it.
Another mix and match 2’s side made the trip to Reading, on the back of a positive performance last time out against a different Reading side. With only 6 of the starters from the previous game available (a common theme for the 2’s this season) the writing was on the wall for another disjointed performance...
The tone for the game was set early on when Reading returned a deep kick off, showing slick offloading and good support play to drive up the field in a matter of seconds. The Chiltern tackling was simply not good enough, allowing Reading to run in a few early tries.
The one way traffic continued for much of the rest of the game, with some questionable referring decisions further adding to Chiltern’s woes. Positively, Chiltern showed good fluidity and creativity when the ball was released to the backs, unfortunately the ball just wasn’t seen enough in the first half to create scoring chances.
Sadly another loss for the 2’s, but the performance and the scoreboard certainly showed the difference in quality and organisation between the 2 sides.
Chiltern, who remain second from bottom, face a big game next week against fellow relegation candidates Windsor. A tie that would be all the more important had Windsor not had a 10 point deduction at the start of season.
Plenty of frustration. LOTS to work on. However, on the whole a game played in good spirits, with flashes of quality in patches.
Jason Kilbey again MOTM with strong carries and seemingly looking for contact wherever possible.
