Unbelievably, even more players reported injuries following last week’s game against Barnstaple. This, on top of the unprecedented number of existing injuries suffered this season, robbed the selectors of at least 12 first-choice players.
Amersham & Chiltern was forced to send what amounted to a second XV on the longest haul of the season - all the way to Devon to play a very strong Brixham team.
Not unexpectedly, Chiltern received a ten-try defeat, but despite the scoreline were not by any means disgraced. Chiltern scored three tries from Ollie Cato, Dan Reilly and Tom Blackburn, which was converted by emergency starter at fly-half Craig Burgess (First XV coach).
In fact, Chiltern was unlucky not to score a fourth try to gain a bonus point, receiving the wholehearted praise of the home players and supporters for their endurance and never-say-die attitude.
Fingers crossed next week that a reasonable number of key players will have recovered from injury enough to be able to take the field.
