Chiltern far too strong for Ruislip in yet more atrocious weather!!

This time last year and with Ruislip bottom of the table Chiltern were horribly complacent as they just about got away with a draw in the home fixture before collapsing away to an embarrassing defeat. On Saturday and with the elements even worse than the last two games, Chiltern took full revenge in a one sided contest out scoring their opponents by 7 tries to 1. The rain was horrible and incessant and Chiltern were without no fewer than 5 first choice players! Ruislip chose to play with the wind but Chiltern were soon into their stride and making inroads into the opposition defence. Throughout the game and despite the rain and slipperiness of the ball the Chiltern scrum and lineout worked well. Handling in backs was less secure with cold hands and despite the final scoreline, shorter more sympathetic passes would have helped cement their superiority. 7 minutes in and some excellent ball following a turnover gave Ross Lewis quick ball. A nice pass went wide to Max Dugdale who fed winger Lloyd Anderson, two sidesteps and a burst of speed and over for the first try, well converted by Jake Cutter,7-0. Ruislip were struggling to get any worthwhile ball and another turnover gave Chiltern's other winger Tom Fawsett room to squeeze over in the corner for a try which was unconverted 12-0.
Despite some dropped passes Chiltern adapted far better to the conditions and a lovely wrap around move gave powerful centre Aiden Caldwell a gap to blast through for a try under the posts and with Cutter's conversion Chiltern were well ahead 19-0. The Chiltern pack were comfortable in possession and time and again they drove Ruislip back or forced handling errors. On 31 minutes Caldwell was again in the right place after a strong scrum had disrupted the opposition and with two defenders hanging on his back over he went for the fourth try again converted by Cutter 26-0. Ruislip never gave up and gained some reward in the last minute of the half when a god drive forward was rewarded with a try which was converted so 26-7 at the interval.
With the weather even worse and the ground now struggling to cope with the rain it became even harder to control the ball. 7 minutes in and with Chiltern battering their line, Ruislip were penalised for collapsing the maul and Lewis took a quick tap penalty and fed Callum Newton who had the strength to cross for the fifth try 33-7. Chiltern were dominant and after yet another turnover outstanding stand in captain and flanker Josh Finch ran in from outside the 22, 38-7. Not be outdone yet another forward got in on the scoring when Adam West who had a splendid game was driven over the line 43-7 which ended the scoring.
Chiltern had comfortably won the game and were content to let Ruislip have some ball but were determined not allow them another score! The match finished on an amusing note when a wild Ruislip pass was flung backwards only to hit the ref full in the face and which put him firmly on his backside.... Everyone had had enough by now and the game ended with Chiltern very happy and with another bonus point win under their belt.
