Chiltern's first half performance was very forgettable. Chingford led at half time by four converted tries, each gifted through interceptions or Chiltern conceding turnovers, to a pushover try from Jordan Scott and a penalty by Andy Fluker. 28-8 and no less than the home side deserved who were more accurate, gritty and better disciplined.
A stern pep talk at half time generated a better second half with Andy Zair and Zane Turner giving committed performances. However, many chances were spurned; poor handling and dropped passes despite the Chiltern pack providing a strong platform. A penalty try, a driving maul off a lineout which Tom Grammenos touched down, and a try from Aaron Doyle brought the visitors within a single point with 10 minutes to go. But despite continued pressure, Chiltern couldn’t quite escape with a win and had to settle for two points having never got further than 3rd gear.
The match seemed to mirror last season. Let’s hope for better this weekend when we entertain Luton.
