Last Sunday was our first set of fixtures as we hosted Reading Abbey and Drifters. Matches scrappy at times but pretty one sided (in our favour) with just a single try to blot our copybook on the day (across all the matches...).

(commentary from our correspondent in the field Mark Podbury)

1st game vs Reading Abbey (First Half commentary, played 2 halves)
With a signature jinking run from the centre of the pitch Maxim and two others pass out to the left wing, then came back inside to Dan on the hoof and he places the ball for the first try. Straight from the restart Joe ran straight through the middle picking up the loose ball. After some quick passing play Aidan gets within a yard of the try line with the move breaking down when they tried to come back inside. Nathan scored the next try after a fake run through by Dan making space on the outside, a move that they had been practicing in training. After not a small amount of work from Nathan, he came through the middle to place ball down.

Post A couple of personnel changes, play resumed with Jack next to score the third try far over in the right-hand corner. Even after putting three past the opposition we maintained pressure, wanting more. Reading spent a good while defending on their line for their lives, rescued with a big boot out that was cleaned up by Aaron at full back. Their resilience didn’t last much longer Toby scores right through the middle, in the centre of the pitch after jinking one way and the other leaving his opponents for dead. After a superb passage of play, Aiden scores in the left-hand corner and his victory jig is something to behold. Right at the end of the half a big kick from centre landed into dead ball area to finish.
Half time 5-0. The second half played on the other pitch was much of the same, finishing 4-1

2nd game vs Reading Abbey (One Half)
For the first 5 minutes the two sides where pretty even and several turn overs meant a bit of back and forth. But then the first try, went to Cam after a usual incisive run through the centre. Again after a lot of pressure through the middle a big run again for Will to almost on the line which was well defended. Then came a wonderful team effort through four lovely exchanges, where we placed again in the corner. The third try for A & C in the right hand corner, was a product of some aggressive play that the opposition couldn’t cope with. The fourth try again was down to Will’s industry making space for Cam to score another after a beautiful move with three interchanges. After a superbly presented ball from Robin, Aaron came running straight through to be stopped a yard from the line, the ball became loose, swept up by A & C for the fifth try. The final score was a solo effort from James with several handoffs, and then aggressively stormed through the middle and scores the sixth.
Final score 6-0

Game vs Drifters
Early on, it stacked up with quite a heavy contest with pitch littered with big lads. After several minutes and some big clashes, all of a sudden out of nowhere came James to scores the first try; a long kick into our right hand corner puts us under severe pressure, but our defence proves resilient and eventually hold up player for an A&C scrum. After playing out from the back he scores and then second follows soon after a beautiful passing structure across the field. The third try was scored on a break away with a runner from the half way line. We turned up the pressure in the last few minutes, with the ball travelling laterally from touch line to touch line, which finally released Kieron to touch on the corner. Another sequence of inter changing play, James breaks free and placed his second try. Finally another try in right hand corner after consistent pressure, putting the finishing touch on a very successful morning.
Final score 6-0

Regular training this Sunday, and despite the wins, a lot for our coaches/U13s to get their teeth into, before we travel to Marlow for our next fixture on the 6th.
