Amersham & Chiltern U14 Vs Marlow U14

Duncan Yarroll12 Nov 2019 - 22:27

Good contest goes Chiltern's way

U14s turned up for their warm up looking ready to take on a Marlow team that always present a good challenge. It was finally a dry day so concentrating on their passing skills was going to be important.

A&C started up the hill on 1st XV pitch and were immediately under the cosh with Marlow working through several phases. A&C defended well with the Hill brothers showing how to drive their opponent back in the tackle. Marlow had several multi-phase drives but generally came to an end with a knock on or other mistake. A&C weren't able to make use of the ball from the first phase scrums - wild passing and running across the line - but survived the pressure. Relief finally came from Max Hayes making a clean break and offloading to Liam Bruno and running into their 22. A&C win an attacking scrum and Liam picks off the back and scores near the posts, Jack Hill converts (7-0). A&C continued to work off scraps of possession and end up attacking the Marlow line again. Liam Bruno takes another pass in space and smashes through from the 10m line and takes an arcing line to the line. Missed kick 12-0. Half time.

Marlow had the majority of the half but had not got any points, which was a credit to some good defence and some powerful running from Liam Bruno.

Second half and A&C playing down the hill now and found themselves in a great attacking position in the Marlow 22 from the off. Several pick and go attempts from Kit Sharkey (making his first appearance of the season), George Meeks and Liam Bruno weren't enough to break through but finally a cut inside from George Hill got the try. The kick misses. 19-0

Marlow start putting some attacks together and their player of the match No7 finds himself in space, cuts inside the defenders and runs in a good try. Missed kick 19-5

Marlow have their second wind and put together some more phases to advance up the field and grab a second try. 19-10. Marlow feeling like here is something on here and letting the A&C boys know! Plenty of back chat too and some advice for the referee!

A&C suddenly find themselves defending hard again in their own half and luckily a loose ball gets to Jack Hill who kicks long into the Marlow 22. Marlow defending hard after the chase but penalised for in-at-the-side. Kick for touch from A&C and an attacking line out. Will we see a driving maul. Josh Eveleigh pumping his legs to the line, but just short and presents the ball. Liam picks ball off back of ruck and runs through several defenders for a hat-trick. Jack HIll's kick is good and 26-10

Marlow don't give up today and put together more phase play than A&C but the home defence was solid and came through to get a good result.

Although this report does not mention everyone, it was a really solid 18 man performance from the U14s. Everyone had a hand in this match and should feel very proud.
