The entire Amersham & Chiltern U14s squad of 25 players were involved in an epic battling defeat against a well drilled Chinnor U14s squad numbering 32, in a match played over 4 x 20 minute quarters.
Amersham & Chiltern RFC reached the half way stage 3 tries to 2 ahead but with Joshua Fisher and then Ben Gale withdrawing through injury the squad was forced to borrow from the quarter 3 & 4 players earlier than planned. Quarter 3 ended with Amersham & Chiltern 4 tries to 5 behind with Edward Batchelor, Alex Porter and Piers Lane also withdrawing to set up a final 20 minutes where despite Amersham & Chiltern continuing to win the contact, Chinnor's fast back line were able to score 4 unanswered tries out wide as our wide defence began to tire.
Amersham & Chiltern started with 14 forwards and dominated the contact at the ruck in all 4 quarters despite changing personnel and facing fresh opposition.
This is a significant endorsement of our strengths with all 4 tries coming from sustained pressure built over multiple phases, while many of the tries conceded where line breaks and missed tackles from deep.
With so many great moments, I am going to mention Serg Fox's fantastic tackle turning their No8 over, Henry Keith and Alex O'Driscoll multiple clear outs at the ruck, 2 tries for George Birch, supported by the opening try from Jacob Avis and also a try by Piers Lane.
