New Year same Amersham and Chlitern U14s

Amersham & Chiltern U14s began their 2019 season with a tricky away fixture at Towcester, where we played 1st half Saxons and 2nd half 1st Team.

The Saxons lead by James Thomas at 10 and Jack Hodgson at No8, with stood early pressure on their line but held out due to a number of last gasp tackles from Cameron Cork, Tommy Richardson, Nathan Iles and Joshua Fisher out wide. The Saxons then got themselves back into the game with great pick and goes from Jack Hodgson, Luke Gibson and George Williams which set the platform for the backs to move the ball wide leading to the first try from Sammy Sinclair playing full back. Freddie Chhabra blunted Towcesters attack with multiple tackles which kept the Saxons playing in the right areas, which lead to more quick ball supplied by Raphael Baker with this time Tom Wingrove making the break, firstly touching down short only to regroup and storm over for the second try. Both converted by Joshua Fisher, which secured a 14 v 0 lead at half time.

The 1st Team lead by Matthew Warren at 10 and Edward Batchelor at No8, started the second half with 12 phases eventually leading to Edward Batchelor breaking the line only to be called back as the referee had impeded the tackler??? The 1st Team were not however going to be denied for long, with multiple completed phases being a key feature of the half with Alex ODriscoll, Alex Evans, Freddie Chhabra, Xavier Currill and Serge Fox dominating the breakdown, although it was an offloading try that broke the deadlock involving Matthew Warren, Sammy Sinclair and finally Piers Lane. Special mention Joshua Fisher who had a great game positionally and counter attacking from Full Back and Wing, Tommy Richardson excellent tackling at centre and Ben Gale for great ball carrying. The next three tries came from line breaks quick ruck ball from the forwards supplied by Thomas Treloar for Serge Fox, Edward Batchelor and Sammy Sinclair who exploited gaps in the tiring Towcester defence.

Final thank you to Tom Wingrove who played the entire match in the front row and scored a try!
