Amersham sparkle in the sun stirring memories of sporting greats...

In ideal rugby conditions on a sunny and calm Sunday morning our elite and confident U14 Squad were transported to the wonderfully flat and prepared pitches of Buckingham RFC.

Traditionally our previous successes at Floyd Field has been hard earned with the Buckingham boys tending to produce a more heavyweight pack, involving penetrating breaks and generally a high powered forward game. On Sunday we again faced a similar style for which all our boys responded to with undoubted enthusiasm and verve.

MATCH 1 - Buckingham RFC (U14s) 5 Amersham and Chiltern (U14s) 24

We played 2 X 20 mins a side matches following on from each other on none other than the 1st Team pitch. From the start Buckingham looked to break only to be floored by a wonderful tackle from Ryan. Taking confidence from this fine effort Chris Grint seized the opportunity to run with his usual purpose delivering a try which Theo Weatherall beautifully converted, over the fence, some high conifers and no doubt onto the road beyond. Maintaining momentum Chris again exploited some weak tackling, before again running in Aintree style, galloping through for a wonderful grounding. Half-time came (No oranges) and it was then Kofi's turn (1989 Lions Vs Australia)to bundle over for unconverted success. Buckingham then managed to respond with some try success (unconverted) before Chris succeeded in hat-trick success with Ryan Treadwell succeeding with conversion of the day (distance and style). It was a beauty.

MATCH 2 - Buckingham RFC (U14s) 17 Amersham and Chiltern (U14s) 7

With victory secured David and Ian unleashed some fresh boys into the fray. Clearly hurt from defeat but also refreshed the Buckingham side made immediate impact through an unconverted try despite some great rucking and tackling in response. Ollie Walker, a stand out performer on the day, burst in to the game with some quality and committed running, cutting through before scoring a try under the posts. With poise similar to Gavin Hastings, Theo Grant lined up the conversion before slotting it confidently between the posts. Alas Buckingham's forwards had rediscovered their forwards confidence and by feeding their larger boys (some very large) with increased possession they responded with a converted try and in the closing stages a final try to seal victory.

The sun continued to shine and players and supporters all continued to enjoy our hosts hospitality with fine fayre and plaudits.

Another successful day in the history of Amersham and Chiltern RFC.
