Weather: very blustery and showers

A&C welcomed Ealing on a very blustery Sunday morning. Despite the fortuitous break in the rain that lasted most of the match, handling conditions would be difficult as the ball was wet and gusts of wind moved the ball in flight.

3 minutes - a dream start as A&C attacked with purpose and dominated field position in Ealing’s half with quick ball released on the right wing on Ealing’s 22 with Max holding his player to free Blake for a powerful and clinical finish to score on the right hand edge of the try zone. Monty converted brilliantly despite kicking in to the wind. 7 – 0

10 minutes - though Ealing had slightly more of the ball possession the relentless line speed and turnover battle upfront from the A&C pack meant the visitors could not retain possession for long and were forced to make many handling errors. Ealing were marched backwards to their own 5 m line for their line out, which Harry S won with a mighty leap. The backs returned the favour and shipped the ball out quickly with Zac releasing Huey within the 22 and Huey does not miss from there. Monty converts. 14 – 0

Just before half time A&C backs played positively and looked to run the ball from their own half, but a longer pass was held up in the wind and Ealing’s half back took the opportunity with a neat intercept and scored beneath the posts. The try was converted before the half time whistle. 14 -7

2nd half

The battle upfront continued with the Ealing pack dominating the scrum, but A&C continued to win turnover ball. Again, the blitz defence and work rate from both the A&C forwards and backs led to a handling error from Ealing capitalised upon by Huey who covered a fair distance for try number three. Monty’s boot converted again. 21 -7

A&C conceded too many penalties throughout the match for offside calls in the main and eventually this basic error would cost them with Ealing’s pack showing good discipline with a number of phases of play resulting in a smash and dive try from a few metres out on the left wing. The try was not converted and soon the final whistle blew.
