One step closer to the league title

The last away match of the season saw Chiltern 3xv travel to Grove in perfect conditions.

Chiltern scored early to set the tempo of the game, a ball passed wide to Phil John who outpaced his winger and passed inside to Ally Davidson for his first of the day. The conversion was missed

Two more tries for the away team before half time; the first for Luke Donnebaum who crashed over from a tap penalty 5 metres out and the next for Liam Gilhooly after a brilliant lineout to the back, a driving maul and then quick ball out to the backs. Both conversions were converted well by Phil John

Grove struck a penalty between the second and third score to make the score 19-3.

The next 10 minutes before half time were spent camped on the Grove line and possibly white line fever prevented Chiltern from adding the all important fourth try.

A disallowed try for Lewis Godfrey just before half time and Chiltern headed in at the break 19-3.

A yellow card for the Grove full back after a brilliant line from Max Fisher. Grove down to 14 men

HT 19-3

Grove came out full steam ahead after half time but their fitness and indiscipline allowed Chiltern to take control and run in a further four tries.

The bonus point try came from some good handling and the ball was passed wide to Dave Robertson to finish in the corner. The conversion was missed

Grove had got on the wrong side of the referee and spent the last 20 minutes with 14 men after a yellow turned into a red for back chat.

Ally Davidson then scored two further tries to seal his hat trick and captain Luke Donnebaum scored the last try of the day to seal an impressive away win. Phil John converted two out of three

FT 43-3

Next week Chiltern 3xv take a league break and then finish the season at home against Wallingford at home on 12th April when they hope to seal the league title.
