Tough mudder

With many matches called off due to the weather it was fortunate for this match to go ahead and it resulted in a well earned New Year win away to third placed Oxford Harlequins.

Chiltern knew from the home fixture last year it would be a close game and so it proved to be.

Two first half scores from Chiltern were just enough to secure the win.

The first was an intercept on the halfway line from Stuart Rogers who passed off to Colm Gilhooly in support who stepped two men to score under the posts for a captain's try. Jake Cutter converted making the score 7-0.

The second try came from sustained pressure in the Oxford Harlequins 22; a well worked lineout catch & drive in the corner, finished by Luke Donnebaum. The conversion was missed from out wide.

This gave Chiltern a solid half time lead but they knew that Oxford Harlequins would come back at them after half time and a tough second half was ahead.

HT 12-0

Due to the conditions the second half was a tight affair between the teams with both teams getting good field position but unable to capitalise.

The only score came with almost the last play of the game; a speculative kick from the Oxford Harlequins no.8 which bounced up kindly for their winger to race in and score down the wing.
The conversion was successful making the score 12-7.

There was time for Chiltern to kick off and hold on for a well earned away win in tough conditions. Bletchley's match was postponed so Chiltern go top of BBO2 for at least a week.

FT 12-7

It was real credit to everyone who played beating third in the league away from home and also to Chris Naisby and Jake Cutter who both made their senior debut's.

Next week Chiltern host second placed Bletchley.
