Home team edge a close encounter against stubborn Witney

The final match of the year saw Chiltern host Witney in a bid to avenge the 10-3 loss away at the start of the season.

With a strong wind behind them, the bonus point was secured by half time but a frustrating second half made for a closer finish than Chiltern would have liked.

The first try was a result of some good handling throughout the team and finished well by Jamie Fenton. The conversion successful by Josh Davies.

The second was from a strong lineout driving maul finished well by Nick Brown to score his first of two. The conversion was missed.

Against the run of play, an individual run from the Witney centre who weaved his way through various tackles to score under the posts. The conversion successful making the score 12-7.

Two tries just before half time secured the four try target; the third of the afternoon for Chiltern was from a great break and offload by Lewis Culverhouse to pass off to Nick Brown to score under the posts. Conversin successful from Josh Davies.

With the momentum behind them the fourth try was arguably the best of the afternoon; playing the full width of the pitch and some great handling led to a try in the corner by Phil John who finished well. The conversion was missed from out wide.

HT 24-7

A frustrating second half against a strong wind meant Chiltern were unable to add to their lead and Witney pinned the home team back in their own half for the majority.

The only try came from Witney's scrum half spotted a gap and darted through to offload to their supporting player who scored under the posts. The conversion successful closing the game to a 10 point gap.

Witney certainly had the momentum in the closing stages and Chiltern did well to close them out until full time.

Credit to Witney who fought back well in the second half and made life difficult for the home team.
