High quality Chiltern Christmas House Match

Club (26) v Wanderers (19)
Sat 21st December 2019
11am KO Meet 9,45am
CR5, Railway Pitch
-
The annual House match between Club and Wanderers took place early on Saturday down on the railway pitch. The sun shone and the mud smelt, but the club wanted mud ! A great leveller between 2 different styles of rugby. Wanderers scored first with a wide score from Peter Hughes, one of many Hughes playing. Jack Davidson scored just before half time to level things up to 7-7. With the advantage of the slope, the club side pounded the Wanderers defensive line, more tries were exchanged but in the end the club side had a more effective game plan in the conditions. It was an entertaining match with some excellent skill on both sides in ridiculously muddy conditions.

Club XV Player Report:
1. Harry Pollard - Tackled and carried , very disciplined performance.
2. Jamie Reeve - Plays anywhere in the front row, scoops up the black eyes.
3. Jorge Gomez - Hunted the ball, loved the mud.
4. Sion Owen - Played 2 years ago , carried loads more this time.
5. Doug Smith (c) - Won the toss, shouted a lot.
6. Mike Shaw - Comeback performance , Club had two 7s.
7. Alex Hart - He's In He's Out He's In ! Complimented both 6 and 8 in attack, played for the team.
8. Tristan Harper - Relentless carries off 10 and off the scrum, led the charge and the game plan.
9. Stef Treloar - Senior Pro getting the ball away and managing the game.
10. Gus Pollard - Put so much pressure on in defence and ran hard in attack , was a constant thorn to the Wanderers.
11. Anthony Smith - I'm not going to pretend , with the conditions the ball hardly made it to the wing.
12. Oli Hall - Tackled and linked well , held the defence high.
13. Richie Tulloch - ran and linked great to have him back.
14. Matt Unwin - Chiltern debut.
15. Tom Fletcher - First person to order a pint pre-match.
16. Bodie Deane - On within 20 minutes and played well in the loose before injuring his knee.
17. Dom Rice - Back from Australia , I think , had a few lovely jinky runs and put some decent tackles in.
18. Jack Davidson - Came on after 20 minutes and drove the forwards phases , great passing in muddy conditions.
19. Chris Tavender - On after 30 minutes , added some phyicality in the rucks and mauls.
20. Mike Merron - 2nd half on the wing, made himself busy, least muddy person after 60 mins.
Team Manager : Dave Crimp: Wise words at the critical moments.
