Chiltern just beat a stubborn Oxford Harlequins

A&C 2xv hosted Oxford Harlequins who they lost to convincingly away back in November 2014 at the start of the season. The outcome was a win for Chiltern against a tough well drilled outfit to keep the home team in second place.

It took 15 minutes for the first score, a penalty converted by Ryan Greenstreet 3-0 to Chiltern.

25 minutes in and after heavy pressure from Oxford Harlequins and repeated infringements Henry Bowcock took a team yellow and the home team were down to 14 men. From the resulting set piece scrum the impressive Oxford Harlequins fly half sliced through the drifting home defence. The conversion succesful giving Oxford a 3-7 lead.

Towards the end of the half Chiltern scored having worked their way through the phases into the Oxford 22, Jack Davidson scored after a strong run, the conversion missed so 7-7.

Just before half time Oxford Harlequins fly half slotted a penalty to keep them ahead.

HT 8-10

Most of the second half was very tight with both kickers trading penalties. Firstly it was another well struck penalty from the Oxford fly half to extend their lead to 8-13.

Ryan Greenstreet struck a penalty for Chiltern against the wind to keep them within 2 points, the score now 11-13.

Just after Chiltern were penalised for holding on and the Oxford kicker again converted a penalty to make the score 11-16.

After sustained pressure it was Oxford who received a yellow card and were down to 14 men for the remaining 10 minutes. From the next scrum which was an awesome effort to drive Oxford over their line Gareth Wehrle scored and Ryan Greenstreet converted making the score 18-16 to the home team.

Chiltern did very well to hold on to the lead and defended their line superbly with some notable tackles from Ieuan Jones on debut and Ryan Greenstreet stopping certain tries.

The final whistle went and credit to the whole squad for their mental strength and team spirit in tough conditions against a well drilled side.

FT 18-16

Next week Chiltern travel away to Chinnor which always promises to be a tough encounter.
