2xv endure a frustrating draw away to Reading

A&C 2xv travelled to Reading for the second week in a row this time to play Reading 2xv, a team they had beaten convincingly at home but certainly wasn’t the case away and ended in a frustrating 10-10 draw.

An early penalty from Dan Wood, well slotted gave Chiltern a 3-0 lead.

Reading settled first and produced a very nice try, quick ball from the set piece and fast hands down the backline to score out wide in the corner, the conversion missed 3-5.

Chiltern suffered an early injury to Dan Wood who couldn’t continue with a facial injury, replaced by Tom Smalley who slotted into centre.

Against the wind Chiltern played the better rugby and had more possession which led to a fine break by Josh Davies who linked up with Rob Smalley, the final pass deemed forward to the away teams frustration.

Just before half time the pressure paid off and from a breakdown 5 metres out Jack Davidson spotted the opportunity and sniped around the ruck to score, the conversion successful from Josh Davies 10-5.

A good first half for Chiltern but they should have put more points on the board with the opportunities given.

The second half only produced one score from the home team with both teams struggling to keep possession.

The Reading no.8 who was a threat all game eventually crashed over from a scrum 5 metres out to the delight of the home team, the conversion missed 10-10 with 15 minutes left.

The final minutes were played end to end but neither team could find the breakthrough and the points were shared.

Chiltern will look to bounce straight back next week when they host Henley 3xv at home.
