Solid performance moves Chiltern 2 points clear in the league having played 1 match more than Chinnor

Chiltern produced a strong performance against a defiant Aylesbury side to take all 5 points and maintain their push for the league title!

An arm wrestle opening 20 minutes (with countless interruptions from the referee who was unhappy with most aspects of play) eventually ended in Chiltern being a try up through Josh Davies who found a whole in the Aylesbury defence to nip through and score.

Chiltern kicked ball away far too often out wide so the forwards decided to take it on themselves to extend the lead. Lineouts were functioning well and following a good driving maul, Rory Pond (making his Senior debut at Hooker) came off the back and using good footwork, touched down to make it 0-14 to Chilts. Conversions were well taken by Cam Gates.

The first half ended with Matt Neill being the recipient of a well worked line out move off the back and with the Aylesbury defence being slow to react, went over to give Chiltern a commanding lead. HT 0-21

The second half was rather disjointed to begin with but play seemed to flow far better as the half went on. Another maul led to Chiltern claiming the 4 try bonus point when Michael Brothers came back on the short side to make the score 0-26.

Chiltern extended their lead further through Jack Kenyon who produced his trademark wriggle to make it through 2 or 3 tackles and put the game to bed. 0-31 Chiltern.

Aylesbury did make it onto the score sheet after consistent Chiltern infringements allowed them to work their way down field and eventually cross under the posts.

There was one final moment of note. Aylesbury's large winger took a disliking to the incoming attempt of a big hit from Jack Kenyon. Raising his almighty arm he promptly handed Kenyon off across the chops, leaving him in a crumpled heap on the floor and his team mates in hysterics. It should also be noted that young Robert Hill and Michael Brothers did fantastically well to also stop the Aylesbury wing from scoring and held him up over the line.

The whistle blew and Chiltern had recorded an important bonus point win. With Chinnor not playing that weekend it means Chiltern leapfrog them into 1st place with a 2 point lead.

Rory Pond deservedly won Man of the Match on debut. His try, strong tackling, great carries and throw ins at the lineouts were promising signs that Chiltern have yet another talented youngster coming through the academy set up.

DOTD goes to David John for doing all the hard work to break the line, kick the ball through (twice) and with the try line at his mercy, miserably fail to collect the ball and consequently knock on.

The 2nd XV have a week off now but resume action against 5th placed Redingensians the week after, who have yet to lose at home this season! A bonus point win in every remaining game is vital, to ensure the pressure is maintained on Chinnor.
