Tring's second half pace & power was too much for A&C

A break from the BBO1 league and a chance to play Tring in a friendly match to maintain match fitness for the 2xv squad. The first half was close but the second showed the gap between the teams, Tring coming out on top who physically dominated and played the phases well to control the game.

Unfortunately the game had to be played with uncontested scrums due to front row injuries throughout the club, 7 to be precise.

The game started fast paced with Chiltern playing quick ball through the phases to earn a penalty in the Tring 22 which Dan Wood slotted well, 3-0. The resulting penalty led to a yellow card for the Tring forward; very harsh considering it was within the first minute of the game.

Tring then settled into the game and despite good defence from Chiltern, the home team's pressure turned into their first try of the game finished by their centre. The conversion was missed making the score 3-5.

In a tight first half with a high penalty count it took until the 30th minute for Chiltern to then receive a yellow card, Harvey Gould who deemed to have tackled the scrum half after the ball was passed.

Down to 14 and conceding a lineout 5 metres out, Chiltern were unable to stop a well worked driving maul in the corner. The conversion was missed and the half time score was 3-10.

HT 3-10

The second half was tough for Chiltern who suffered 5 injuries throughout the match and Tring's strength and power in the lineout, breakdown and open play began to show.

Three tries were scored by Tring before Chiltern had an answer; the first another lineout move (try converted 3-17), then Tring's strong inside centre ran through to finish well (try converted 3-24) and the third a well worked team try working through the patterns and scoring out wide (try 3-29)

What was pleasing was Chiltern never gave up and with 15 minutes to go scored a try from a scrum when Jack Davidson made a good break from the base and passed to Zak Underwood who finished well in the cornner, the try unconverted from the touchline making the score 8-29.

Tring had the final say after an intercept to gain possession, they then worked through the phases and scored wide stretching the Chiltern defence, the conversion missed.

A tough match for Chiltern but a good chance to look at new players and keep the squad match fit. Tring will travel to Chiltern on 29th November for the return fixture when hopefully it will be a closer contest.
