CHILTERN SUFFER ONE OF THOSE HORRIBLE DAYS AT THE OFFICE AGAINST A HIGHLT MOTIVATED RUISLIP TEAM!

We’ve all had one and today it was Chiltern’s turn to wonder what could go wrong next… Dropped passes, missed tackles, taking the wrong option, you name it and it happened. Unfortunately for Chiltern, Ruislip were playing for their survival in this league and were comprehensively the better side by a country mile.

Frustratingly the first try conceded was somehow given when the Ruislip player was at least 6 inches short of the line. The referee who didn’t enjoy the best of days was too far behind play and simply guessed the decision which was just wrong. It seemed to take the wind out of Chiltern’s sails although what followed could not be blamed on anyone else!

Ruislip used the wind to good effect and unlike the home match in which Chiltern again played poorly in the first half but recovered to draw the match, this time Ruislip were away and gone at 41-3 at half time and despite some improvement in the second half which Chiltern actually won 14-7 it was nowhere need good enough to rescue even a bonus point.

Yes there were late changes to manage and some significant absentees for various reasons but it was Ruislip’s day as they pretty much made themselves safe in the league for another year.

The boys will regroup and will play much better when Colchester come to Weedon Lane next week. This was a game for the boys to remember as how not to play, to put it behind them and come again for the rest of the season!

The match against Colchester will be a 3.00pm kick off and will be preceded by the annual Ladies Lunch hosted by club stalwarts Spike Stevens and Nick Morrison.

There will be a minute’s silence before the game for the never to be forgotten Clive Newton who so sadly died on the Saturday before last. His funeral and wake are on Thursday this week beginning with a service at Amersham Crematorium at 2.30pm
