Old Priorians RFC 1XV - 6
Penalties: 2
Amersham and Chiltern RFC 1XV - 26
Tries: 4
Conversions: 3
Half Time: 3 - 7
A warm welcome to us all at some fantastic rugby facilities at St Benedict’s School Playing fields, Perivale.
Joe Simpson, formally of Wasps and England had made the right decision not to face up to the might of Amersham and Chiltern RFC and had chosen to take part in the pre-match support act. OP 2s V London Sussex with an earlier kick-off.
Some decent travelling support graced the side-lines as 3rd played 4th and Chiltern hoped to secure a league double. A great pitch and a 3pm kick off, all under lights.
A strong start from Old Priorians as they twisted and turned securing the ball and putting constant opening pressure on the A&C defensive line.
With the additional support coming from the players from the early kick-off returning to the changing rooms, A&C managed to keep them out, but endured a torrid time.
On 6 minutes the decision was made to kick the opening penalty and at least ensure an early lead for Old Priorians (3-0). Even then A&C endured some further pressure.
Until…
Kieran Booth, our quiet, huge and baby-faced lock opened his legs and goose stepped over the line for our opening try. Duly converted by Tom Fawssett (3-7). Some strong defending from both sides and attacks cancelling each other out was then the theme.
It was not until the 70th minute that things got interesting when after another wee bit of naughtiness, the Twisters secured another penalty to have only a single point deficit.
With everyone prepared for a nail-biting last 20 minutes, it was Conor Segre with another exceptional game making the break and running through for our 2nd try again duly converted from Big Tom (6-14).
There was a chance the Tornado would blow out and on 76 mins hard-working Noah Jarvis saw the opportunity to surge through the Centre for our 3rd try. He then chose to convert with his dodgy kicking foot (6-21).
With only a minute remaining the cheers went up after a fine Bojan Cecaric break and finish in the corner (6-26).
Bonus point secured and relief after a hard-fought tussle.
Quote of the day: ‘A day of some fantastic defence from both sides. Who would blink first and it wasn’t Chiltern. Great game and wore them down with some superb attacking rugby’
Next Week: local derby down Windsor End and the home of Beaconsfield RFC. Lots to lose, but much to gain as we look for a bonus point win to stay on track to make things very exciting. Always a tussle and never a disappointment. Not for the fainthearted and one where our visit is always eagerly awaited. Be there or be square!
