BUCKS CUP SUCCESS AS CHILTERN COMPREHSIVELY OUTPLAY A BRAVE SLOUGH SIDE

As Cup holders Chiltern are there to be shot at but despite resting ¾ of the normal 1st XV squad they were still too strong for a brave but ultimately outclassed Slough side in the ¼ finals of this year’s Bucks Cup.

Fielding 12 home home grown players including the complete backline and with 17 year old scrum half Matt Bellamy making his senior debut alongside man of the match, 18 year old Monty Weatherall, Chiltern dominated the game from the start, running the ball whenever possible and scoring 12 tries in total with Weatherall converting 11 of them plus a try to give him a 27 points haul!

The game was played in a fierce wind blowing end to end which made kicking interesting to say the least! It was no surprise that running was the preferred option for both sides but the pace and accuracy of Chilterns passing, time and again gave Chiltern the opportunity to outflank the Slough defence. A wonderful, huge miss pass from Weatherall inside his own 22 saw Jake Cutter find winger Scott KIlbey whose 70m run produced the first and probably best try of the game.

Regular breaks by forwards and backs saw Chiltern clock up another 6 tries in the first half whilst Slough with a period of sustained forward play scored a try of their own to make the score 49-7 at half time.

The pattern of the second half was very similar with Chiltern adding a further 5 tries to make the final score 82-7. Scott Kilbey, Chris Naisby and debutant Sam Risbridger all scored 2 tries each with the others spread throughout the team.

It was very difficult day for Slough but to their huge credit they never gave up trying and contributed so well to a really enjoyable afternoon for a good sized crowd to watch.

Saturday sees Chiltern return to league action when they entertain Diss from Norfolk. Kick off will be at 3.00pm as Chiltern look to make it 3 league wins in a row.
