All ends well at the AJ Bell

Colts U17's victorious in the National Plate Final at Sale Sharks AJ Bell Stadium against Driffield U17's.

A great occasion ending in a great result for A&C against a strong and determined Driffield side. A&C got off to the better start and dominated the early play. Looking strong in all areas A&C scored 2 early tries, from Scott Kilbey and Tom Darvill both converted by Ollie Choules. A 14-0 lead settling any nerves the team may have had. Whilst continuing to dominate most of the play they were unable to add to the score in the remainder of the first half.

Driffield started the second half with greater urgency and drive and took the game to A&C. The game now being played in the A&C half called for strong and disciplined defending with Driffield pushing to find an opening through both forwards and backs. A&C held firm, even when going down to 14 men after concceding a series of penalties keeping the opposition at bay. A&C held out and back at full strength Ollie Choules scored a great individual try weaving his way in and out of the Driffield defense and touching down in the corner for a 19-0 lead.
Driffield continued to push for an opening but couldn't break down the A&C defense. A penalty to A&C, succesfully converted by Ollie Choules took the score to 22-0.

Changes from the A&C bench seemed to give the team renewed energy and belief and they began to dominate the play again. A great passing move down the touchline between forwards and backs put Scott Kilbey and Ben Dugdale in space, slick passing between the two put Ben in the clear to dive in for a great score only to be pulled back for marginal forward pass earllier in the move. Driffied never gave up but were unable to find a way through and the game finished with A&C in control.

A fantastic peformance from all the squad and great support from their travelling army of fans. A great day and a great way to end their season. The club can be very proud of this squad and all they have achieved over the years. Long may they stay together!!!!
