Colts U17 earn deserved victory in first round of the National Plate

A fixture that wasn't finally confirmed until the morning of the game saw a depleted A&C squad of 19 take to the M4 for their journey west to Chippenham.

A&C had the benefit of the wind at their backs in the first half and started the game well. looking solid in forwards and backs. Tries from Elliot Ayling and Joe Batt with a conversion from Gus Knott gave A&C a 12-0 lead before the home team secured a penalty to register their first points and the half finished with A&C leading 3-12.

With conditions now in their favour the home team tried to take the game to A&C. Handling errors and a succession of penalties from a referee determined to penalise A&C at every given opportunity added additional momentum to Chippenham who were rewarded with a try taking the score to 8-12. A&C were next to score with a brilliant catch and drive with Taylor Reed getting the ball down, the score 8-17.

The home team looked to kick the ball deep into the A&C half whenever possible and a misjudgement and fortunate bounce gifted the home team another try, this time converted, taking the score to 15-17 with 10 minutes left to play.

A resilient A&C managed to keep their composure and discipline and hold out for the remainder of the game earning a deserved victory and move forward to the next round. A solid all round performance from the squad with special mention to man of the match Gus Knott.

Well done boys.
