Colts B's make hard work of win

A Colts B squad of 24 took on a Reading Abbey squad of 14 in today's re-arranged league fixture originally due to be played in March. A&C put 14 men on the field to match their opponents and soon looked to be in control.

Tries by Gus Knott and Tom Wood with a conversion from Gus Knott gave A&C a 12-0 lead. Substitutions through the half did'nt seem to lessen A&C's grip on the game against a strong and spirited opposition. A&C finished the half leading 12-0 with everything seemingly under control.

Further changes at half time and A&C continued to control the game. Tries from Will Price and Gus Buckman took the score to 22-0 with the game as good as won. That was the feeling both on and off the field but Reading Abbey had other ideas. Their strong pack picked up the challenge and took the game to A&C. Helped by some complacent and ill disciplined play by A&C the opposition gained momentum and belief and crashed in 3 tries with 1 conversion. A&C were now on the back foot in a game that should have been out of reach of the opponents. With the score at 22-17 the final whistle blew to the relief of the home team, coaches and supporters.

A win but not in the way A&C had imagined throughout the majority of the game. Credit to Reading Abbey for their commitment and pushing A&C to the end. A&C man of the match was Connor Underwood for his ferocious takling throughout the match. Good performances also from Tom Wood and Ieaun Jones. Improvement required in team performance and attitude for the challenges ahead.
