A&C U13s v Marlow - Sunday 21st January

Last Sunday, A&C took 2 U13s teams to Marlow. The remnants of storm Isha meant a strong cross wind and some slightly soggy pitches, making running rugby more challenging. A&C A got off to a slow start, with Marlow on the offensive and A&C putting in resolute defensive work. As the first quarter drew close, and with the score still at 0-0, Marlow were able to work the ball wide and score with a big carry and good finish right in the corner. A&C started the second quarter strongly, adjusting some players positionally to meet the physicality of Marlow, applying pressure and trying to work the ball wide. An excellent break was almost rewarded with a try but the windy and wet conditions led to a slight handling error at the end. Marlow finished strongly pouncing on a loose ball, fly hacking down field, with the bounce of the ball evading A&C allowing Marlow to dot down to win 2 tries to 0.

A&C A then played the other Marlow side. An honest assessment of the first match was given by players and coaches with support and the ruck two key areas identified as areas for improvement. From the first whistle A&C came out with more desire and aggression. Strong rucking, excellent support running, and moving the ball wide quickly resulted in 5 unanswered tries in the first quarter. Marlow started the second quarter better, scoring from a big carry through the middle. A&C responded well though, scoring one more to win 6 tries to 1.

A couple of thoroughly entertaining games. Thanks to Marlow for hosting and putting on a couple of great games.
