Last weekend's training saw a magnificent turnout of 39 players, a number we have not seen since the now distant days of tag rugby. The coaching team was unanimous in their appreciation of the effort and intelligence shown by our young superstars as they (quite literally) grappled with the latest evolution of game development; rucking. We will continue to introduce further changes in the coming weeks which will include uncontested scrummaging and mauling (don't worry, it isn't as bad as it sounds!)

Those familiar with minis' rugby will recall the specific challenges faced at this time of year. Cold wind and wet, muddy pitches can quickly turn enthusiastic minis into recalcitrant adolescents so we recommend plenty of thin layers, two pairs of socks and, most importantly, gloves. Rugby cannot be played when cold hands have been withdrawn inside sleeves, tortoise style, so some form of sports glove really is a must in the winter. And gum shields, did I mention gum shields...?

Some important notices:

• Anyone who missed last Sunday's important introduction to rucking is welcome to come along early (10:00) next week. This offer is also open to anyone who would like a refresher of the basics before we get into developing these skills during the session.

• I have loaded the rest of the season's fixtures onto Pitchero for your availability. The first of these is a joint training session against Saracens in Cockfosters on 23 January. I will also add a home training session that day in case there are (i) enough people who cannot travel and (ii) we have enough coaches that are also similarly restricted. Please update your availability. • Finally, some more excellent news concerning former A&C minis. We were chuffed to hear that Kofi Cripps has been selected for the England U20 squad. This is hot on the heels of Kofi, James Tunney & Dan Eckersley making their debuts for Wasps in the Premiership Cup in November last year. Please let your children know about this fantastic news.
