With the end of the season fats approaching, it means that the club is busier than ever, with crucial matches for the seniors and some tours awards for the juniors.

Despite a narrow defeat to Southend on the last day of the season, it was enough to lift the 1XV out of the automatic relegation places into a play-off spot, where they’d play away at Westcliff.

We fell behind for much of the first half but managed to rally and trailed by only 5 points going into half time. The Chiltern boys started brightly, as with our opposition down to 13 we had to capitalise. An Alex Bower break, supported by Conor Serge but us in front for the first time with 20 minutes to go. Tries for both sides kept the scores close, when in the final 5 minutes Westcliff scored what would be the decisive try to secure their survival.

So, what does this mean?

It means next Saturday is the biggest of the season, a home playoff, a survival showdown against the winner of the game between H.A.C. and rivals Beaconsfield. Either way, we will be at home and need all the support we can get. Lunch is only £25 for adults or £10 for children so get involved to show your passion for the club.

What else has been going on?

The 2XV finished their brilliant season with a narrow defeat to Milton Keynes, ending the season 3rd in their division, but with aims of promotion going into the new campaign. To go along with their amazing season, they were awarded Bucks RFU ‘Team of the Month’ thanks to their 2 convincing wins over Reading II and Chesham and their all-round stellar year.

In the juniors, it was the end of the season for the u15s (pictured above) with a game against Old Grammarians, a plank competition and an end of season awards celebration. Congratulations to all the award winners and good luck this weekend as they head of Ireland and Creggs RFC on tour.

Elsewhere the U13s completed their tour to Bath where they played brilliantly and even managed to catch a game at The Rec and give Finn Russell some pointers.

The women’s 1XV also capped off their first league season with a tournament at Reading Abbey which saw wins over Phoenix and Banbury and narrow losses to Beaconsfield and Royal Wootton Bassett. The team has gone from strength to strength, consistently improving over the year and we can’t wait to see what’s next for the girls.

And finally, last week the club hosted the Chilterns League Tag Rugby Finals, where 9 local primary schools battled it out to be crowned champions, with Chesham Bois CE School coming out on top against Chartridge School in the final. Well done to all the schools that took part in the event.
