Sam joins A&C as a New Coach working with James Love the New Head Coach

Amersham & Chiltern RFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Sam Lunnon as the
club’s new Coach, working with new Head Coach James Love, marking a significant step
forward in the continued evolution of our senior rugby programme.

Sam joins A&C with a proven National League track record across both playing and coaching pathways. His experience spans performance environments, player development systems, and senior forwards leadership — bringing a current player, informed approach that sits alongside James’ philosophy and aligns with the club’s long term ambitions.

Speaking on his appointment, Sam Lunnon said: “I’m delighted to join Amersham & Chiltern RFC. I thank Henley RFC for all they have done for me and I leave them having survived the playoffs in Nat 2. Amersham & Chiltern RFC weren’t as lucky with their playoffs but has a clear target of immediate return to Level 5, a strong community, and a senior squad with huge potential.

As a coaching team we will focus is on building a high performance environment that
develops players, strengthens our culture, and delivers rugby that the whole club can be proud of.”

Club Chairman Andy Saunders welcomed the appointment: “As a club we have been trying to secure Sam for the last three seasons. He will play for us and coach which will bring a new level of experience to our on field making. Sam already works with James as a teacher, and their team building skills are excellent. The players are massively excited about the new appointment and can’t wait for the start of pre-season. The appointment of James & Sam is core to our new rugby
programme and creating a pathway that connects our minis, juniors, colts, seniors, and
academy aligned players.”

Director of Rugby Pete Gibson added: “Sam has rugby gravitas. He is known as a lineout
specialist, but he is so much more. We have been tracking him for years, and along with James brings a fresh higher-level experience that he can share with the senior squad and cascade through the rest of the club. His experience working with developing players and senior squads will be invaluable as we push towards our performance goals.”

Sam will support James with the senior coaching group, oversee training design and delivery, and work closely with the club’s leadership team to strengthen alignment across the rugby pathway.
