A note from Andy

May 2026

Busy May has now ended with an unsatisfactory culmination to our 1st XV season.
We lost away at Westcliff by 1 point and then capitulated at home to Old Colfeians by 3 points, having led 17-0!

The positives are that the clubhouse was rammed for the final playoff game and we took a significant amount over the bar, lunches and raffles/guess the score, and there was a real buzz around the club.

This has proven the fact that we need to fill the post of Events Coordinator , if you or a group of you could help please contact Andy Saunders.

So, our season has drawn to a stuttering close, with some closed season activities starting to take shape.

- Touch T1 Rugby – 2 taster session for all abilities, ages and genders started 21/5/26 with a
second taster session on 28/5/26 between 7.00pm and 8.45pm every Thursday over the
summer.
There will be leagues starting in June, with entry fees but these also give the entrants
3 x 10’ freshly made Pizzas from our new onsite Pizza Oven. (£30 entry - £30 worth of pizza)

- Comedy Nights – start Friday 19th June at the club. I believe we have a well known comedian at the first one. Please buy tickets and let’s get this show on the road! Tickets are only £21 and include a free pint or short + mixer or soft drink at the bar.
The club will have its own exclusive Comedy Night at the end of next season to celebrate courtesy of the Comedy Club which will be a fund raiser.

- “War” – a new Sky / HBO production will be based on location at the club between 22/5/26 and 1/6/26. If you’re lucky and you are up there working out with Charlie or playing T1 Touch, you may spot Dominic West or Sienna Miller. This is the second series filming of a show about competing law firms in London which will air this October. It is why Copperkins Lane is closed during half term.

-The Archery Club has started. If anyone is interested in taking up an Olympic Sport, then we have the local archery club in residence on a Sunday morning at the club. They are keen to boost their membership. If you need details please ask at the bar.

- The Diving Club has also taken up residence at the club. They aren’t obviously diving here but
they store their diving equipment here and would love to offer members a tater session if
anyone is interested, again details at the bar.

- Weatherfield Project – update is that next month we are expecting the planning application to be heard by the Council and that it will go to committee with their approval. We have not got this far before, so this would appear to be very positive news.

- New Beers at the bar – we may be moving beers from Budweiser to Heineken as a supplier. The reason for change is the incentive, which will be £3k per annum for 3 years minimum. We will have a good choice of beers, with no downgrade and we will have a 0% alcohol on draft. The change over will happen in June/July. We will have Neck Oil, Cruzcampo, Moretti, Amstel, Inchs Cider, and Heineken 0% plus Guinness and Grayburn retained.

- Away / Tour Kit design competition ends this month (entries close - 31/5/26). The winning design will be our away strip this season for the seniors and the juniors and minis will use it as their touring strip too at the end of the season. If you want to be a sponsor on the shirt please contact Ruth asap - sponsorchilternrugby@gmail.com

We look forward to seeing you over the Summer, keep an eye on our socials and website for the latest news
