U18s finish in style

Victory in their final home game as Colts...

A&C U18s were back together again for the first time this season in their final league home game against Maidenhead on a cold but sunny afternoon. It was sunshine rugby all the way as A&C ran out comfortable 26 - 5 in a feisty encounter. A&C started as they had finished last season, solid in scrum and lineout and expansive in the backs. A&C took the lead with a try form Jacob Goldstein, powering over from close in, the try converted by Gus Knott. Maidenhead replied with an unconverted try from their number 8 after a period of sustained pressure in the A&C 22. A&C dominated much of the possession and territory with some strong running from the forwards and slick handling through the backs. Callum Reid-Jones rampaging through the Maidenhead side added another unconverted try and A&C finished the half leading 12-5.

A&C continued to dominate through the second half, playing some excellent rugby against a strong and determined opposition. Gus Knott next to score and converted his own try. Maidenhead had no answer to A&C's total rugby and Luke Naylor added another try this time converted by Max Dugdale taking the score to 26-5, a fair reflection on A&C's dominance. Max was named man of the match for a solid game at 12 but all the squad played their part in an excellent performance.

This was a fitting way for the team to end their junior rugby days, a team that have achieved so much over the years, playing rugby as it should be played. On a personal level it has been a true pleasure to watch these boys develop as individuals and as a team, I only wish they had been able to play together more this season. I wish them well for the future but hope they keep in touch with each other and the club in the hope that they will play together again in the not too distant future.
