Colts A's Win Away
By Miles Dugdale
Colts A win last league game of the season
An A&C Colts A squad made up of 11 U18, 6 U17 and 4 U16 travelled to Newbury for their final league game of the season and the last game for the U18's in junior rugby.
A fitting finale to the season saw A&C run out comfortable 45-12 winners. A game they dominated from the start with tries from Jacob Goldstein, Adam Constable, Oli Oakley and Callum Reid-Jones, with 2 conversions from Cam Gates and 1 from Tom Ffitch. Newbury responded with a converted try to end the half with A&C leading 26-7.
Rolling substitutions during the first half and throughout the second enabled Newbury periods of pressure but A&C were soon back in control with second half tries from Rob Hughes, Ieuan Jones and Rob Hill, with 2 more conversions for Cam Gates. Newbury adding an unconverted try to their total. The final score of 45-12 was true reflection of A&C's dominance with some great individual efforts in their total of 7 tries, notably some great running from Adam, Callum and Rob Hughes, great backing up from Oli Oakley, great line and finish from Ieuan, great speed and awareness from Rob Hill and a poachers finish from Jacob.
A&C were strong in attack and defence throughout the game and adapted well to all the personnel and positional changes. A great way to end the season and a fitting way for the U18's to end their junior rugby days. It looks as though they are leaving a very successful legacy of junior rugby in good hands.
