Having finished a credible 4th in the OBB Division 1, the under 17s faced a play off at Aylesbury to progress to the National Knock Out competition. Facing a strong wind, A&C played tight controlled rugby with the pack driving forward continually helped by straight running by the centres Tom Shiel and Ben Shevlane. No 8 Garth Biggins excelled with his line out jumping and strong runs. The reward was a half time lead of 10-7 after a forward drive lead to a try by the captain,Jonny Ripper, but the highlight being a 50 yard scoring run down the touchline by wing Tom Maw, beating 3 defenders along the way. Aylesbury responded strongly in the second half and took the lead with a try from a lineout only for Tom Shiel to seal victory with a fantastic try from a clearance kick beating all the defensive cover with his searing pace. The whole team defended vigorously for the last 10 minutes and the final score was 15-12 to A&C. The match saw a few new faces blooded showing the strength of the squad and was only spoilt by a nasty shoulder injury to the man of the match, Garth Biggins.

Clive,

Well done to the boys and the coaches. When is the national knockout? BTW...Ryan has begun has begun his rubgy season here in Norcal with the first match this weekend. Check out Loborugby.com if interested. The local clubs are still willing to host the 17's if a tour is possible!
