All, As mentioned, I've been looking into the possibility of going on tour to South Africa, to coincide with the Lions tour. I've now got a basic itinerary through: Thursday 11 June DEPART LHR IN FLIGHT Friday 12 June Arrive Cape Town 1 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront SATURDAY 13 JUNE W PROVINCE 2 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront Sunday 14 June ROBBEN ISLAND OPTION 3 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront Monday 15 June WINELANDS OPTION 4 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront Tuesday 16 June TABLE MOUNTAIN OPTION 5 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront Wednesday 17 June CAPE POINT OPTION 6 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront Thursday 18 June CPT - DUR FLIGHT 7 DURBAN 'Guest House' Friday 19 June FREE DAY 8 DURBAN 'Guest House' SATURDAY 20 JUNE 1st TEST 9 DURBAN 'Guest House' Sunday 21 June DEPART SA IN FLIGHT Monday 22 June Arrive LHR The cost is coming out at £2,675 per person, including: Return international flights to South Africa in economy class 2 internal flights Current fuel surcharges Current UK & SA airport taxes & passenger service charges 9 nights accommodation (twin share basis) Breakfast daily Airport transfers Match transfers Match ticket royalties to 3 matches inc 2 Tests We will also need to add the face value of the match tickets to that. All I want is a general consensus on the trip and price, and any recommendations on how this can be altered. And before anyone pipes up about it, yes it is expensive and we would have to arrange some "funding" events to help with this. to be honest, I'd quite like to go to the 1st Test, but the extra time in Durban could make a differance to the cost. We would also look to play a match against a Stellenbosch XV, on the winelands day out! I'm meeting the guy next week, so any responses would be good, before Wednesday 6th. See you at training tonight Nic |

Sorry as good as that sounds there is not a hope in hell that I could afford that I am afraid, and looking at the age range of who is training at the mo I am not sure many others could either, but I wouldn't like to speak for anyone else so speak up! see you tonight Nic |

Guys - i took a schoolboy side to South Africa last year on a tour. It is an excellent place and i can highly recommend it as a tourist destination... However in terms of the rugby unless you are taking your strongest side possible (which would be unlikely due to cost and general availability) i wouldn't recommend it. As a rugby nation they are absolute fanatics and make the New Zealanders look like a nation who barely care about Rugby! If you take a second rate side you will get yourselves a new #rsehole torn - and i certainly wouldn;t be recommending play Stellanbosch Uni - that would be the equivalent of playing Hartpury College on Steriods! Great place to tour in terms of Rugby culture and general things to see and do (just be careful in Jo'Burg) but only consider playing rugby if you are very serious about it otherwise someone will get hurt
Good luck with it and best of luck for the New Season boys - hopefully you can bounce straight back up the leagues again. Cheers Pottsy P.s. - who is coaching the Chiltern 1st XV this year? |

UPDATE I've met with the tour opperator, and have explained that the trip was slightly too long, and that the cost is too much. He has come up with a new trip: Wednesday 10 May DEPART LHR IN FLIGHT Thursday 11 June ARRIVE CAPE TOWN 1 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront www.citylodge.co.za Friday 12 June WINELANDS (BOSCHENDAL) 2 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront SATURDAY 13 JUNE W PROVINCE 3 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront Sunday 14 June FREE DAY 4 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront Monday 15 June ROBBEN ISLAND 5 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront Tuesday 16 June TABLE MOUNTAIN / SHARK DIVING OPTION 6 CAPE TOWN City Lodge Waterfront Wednesday 17 June DEPART SA IN FLIGHT Thursday 18 June ARRIVE LHR PRICE £2,149 Inclusions Return international flights to South Africa in economy class Current fuel surcharges Current UK & SA airport taxes & passenger service charges 6 nights accommodation (twin share basis) Full breakfast daily Airport transfers Match transfers Match ticket royalties to 1 provincial match Full day winelands tour including luxury coach, local guide, 2 wine tastings/cellar tours, picnic lunch at Boschendal Half day trip to Robben Island To add Face value of match ticket N.B Based on a minimum of 30 tourists Can people let me know on this, as deposits (£300) will have to be in by the end of the month. I'm keen, but I still think it's too expensive for most of us. If that is the case, then I'll look into an easten european tour, maybe Prague/Moscow, if that sounds better? Cheers, Nic |

Moscow! Rather not thanks. This South Africa tour sounds a great idea but far to expensive. Its over £1000 more than the 2005 tour! Tour is a definate though so keep the ideas coming. |

Turkish you are an idiot...(but this time for a reason) You will have no better time in your life then a rugby tour in Moscow (or my personal favorite Kazan on the Russian Europe - Asia border). British passports are the athrodisiac of choice The women are out of this world and for those unable to enjoy the above two factors... Vodka is £0.50 a bottle. Neil I would be in for Moscow! |
| Nic 12th Aug 2008 2:02 PM |
Well I'll let you know what my first hand opinion of Moscow is, after all I'm there for a week from Sunday! Reckon that we should try and have a quick meeting, after training on Thursday, to chat about tour....and that way everyone can have their say. Can all pottential tourists try and be there. My opinion......I think that we should def go foreign, but where I'm not too fussed about. |

Alright boys, Following on from the no go to SA, I've found a couple of much cheaper options, which will hopefully fit! They are to go to, either: - Ljubljana - Cost £335 (minimum 30 tourers) - Zagreb - Cost £335 (minimum 30 tourers) - Hamburg - Cost between £309 (45 tourers) to £329 (25 tourers) Payment will be £75 deposit, and then balance 6 weeks from tour (roughly middle of Feb). All of these will be in April, next year, and flights will depart on Thursday and back on Monday....so very similar to the Italy tour. I'm not too fussed where we go, but there will definately be one game played, in Hamburg maybe 2, and to be honest I quite fancy a little bit of Eastern Europe, so Slovenia is my option. If I can have an idea of numbers, then I can get things booked up. Cheers guys and good luck to everyone on Saturday. We need to out a few wrongs, right!!! Nic |

Thanks for all your hard working on organising a tour. I am in depending on dates in April as I am on Holiday in South america for two weeks. I can get us very cheap if not free accomdation in Berlin as I have family who are property developers out there and own lots of apartments for rent on an ad hoc basis or moscow works for me depending on whatever we decide as a collective. See you all tonight. Cathal |
