The Colts continued their unbeaten run with a comfortable win at Abbey in this OBB LEAGUE (div 1)match played in difficult, windy conditions today. The pack totally destroyed the Abbey scrum with props Morrison,Szwagrzak and sub. Telford having a field day and their talented backs got very little quality ball to play with. The excellent defence around the break down stopped any progress by the Abbey pack but our own driving play, particularly when playing into the wind, often caused the opposition problems. Our line out play was excellent, given the windy conditions, and man of the match hooker, Stuart Rogers, gave a superb display of throwing in. Three tries were scored by Thornton,Rogers and Biggins (all forwards) with one converted by John. The backs defended well and our back three gave a very good unit performance with full back, Rice, making some excellent counter attack breaks. Captain,Tom Smalley, again controlled the game well from fly half and linked well with centres John and Jackon as well as kicking astutely. However, this was a win for the forwards and it was indeed a quality display in very difficult conditions. Squad: Rice,Kenyon,Maw,Saunders,John,Jackson,Smalley,Reus,Morrison,Rogers,Szwagrzak,Telford,Vialls,Thornton,Shipp,Craggs,Smith,Ripper,Biggins. |
