Under 9's

2008-09

HAPPY NEW YEAR - BUT TRAINING IS CANCELLED ON SUNDAY 4TH JANUARY DUE TO FROZEN PITCHES SO WE'LL START AGAIN NEXT WEEK - SUNDAY 11TH JANUARY

WHAT A GREAT DAY WE HAD AT WINDSOR ON SUNDAY 14TH DECEMBER
- a staunch squad of 11 developing players travelled to Windsor to take part in their 'C' tournament - winning two matches, drawing one and just losing out in the final two games contested at the end of a concentrated period of play. All the players contributed to a brilliant team effort - WELL DONE : Angus, Connor, Danny, George, Jack, Jed, Mark, Maxim, Robert, Sam and William - THANK YOU: Andy and Spike for your inspirational coaching - and all the parents and supporters who came to encourage our team!

SUNDAY 7TH DECEMBER - welcome to Chesham and Reading Abbey who are coming to Amersham for a three-way fixture. Please make sure you arrive in good time (by 9:45 for a 10:00 start).

WELL DONE - to EVERYONE who travelled to Old Albanians on Sunday 23rd November - braving the biting cold and wet conditions
- we managed a couple of matches and all players were fantastically committed, in spite of the weather!!

Sunday 16th November - A fantastic result for the A squad that played at Saracens 'A' Tournament and won the trophy for the second year in a row!!

Our remaining players travelled to Maidenhead and played in a three-way fixture with Maidenhead and Tring - a good day all round!

SUNDAY 12TH OCTOBER:

WELL DONE - to the twenty players and coaches who travelled to Beaconsfield - for joint coaching and matches played with fantastic spirit! And many thanks to those of you who then came to Amersham to support the other age group players.

CONGRATULATIONS - to the A and B squads who played in the Amersham & Chilton Minis Tournament - both teams played enthusiastically and were unbeatable on the day! Both squads were group winners with Beaconsfield runners up. Fair Play shields went to Saracens (A) and Beaconsfield (B).

CONGRATULATIONS - To everyone who travelled to the Windsor tournament on Sunday 5th October. Our four teams all played enthusiastically in this opening tournament of the season - in spite of very wet weather!! Well done to the A - Whites who shared the winning trophy for the A teams and to the A - Clarets who won the third place shield. Both B teams played in high spirits and the B - Clarets just lost out to Saracens in the runners-up play-off. Thank you to the players, their parents and families - who turned out in numbers to add support - and to our team coaches Andre, Andy, Peter and Graeme.

Many thanks to those of you who donated second hand kit for the sale a few weeks ago - we raised about £40 - a useful contribution towards a tournament tent - but we're still saving (so if anyone has any bright fund-raising ideas please let Jane/Nick/Peter know).

This season the players are involved in contact rugby for the first time - with an introduction to line-outs, scrums, rucks and mauls.  For safety, it is essential that all players wear gum shields and boots with the correct rugby studs - if in doubt please check with Real Sports in Amersham who stock gum shields/replacement studs, should you require them.

We've made a fantastic start to our competitive season and hope to continue to better the successes of last season when both our A and B squads performed brilliantly at a number of tournaments including the Club tournament in October 2007 and the London Irish tournament in April.
