A and B squads all winners at London Irish Tournament!
Both our A and B squads had a great time at the London Irish tournament on the last day of the 2007-08 season.
The As finished top of their league and fought hard in the final against London Irish. They were denied a last minute try and the final ended in a draw, the two teams agreeing to share the honours - a splendid silver cup!
The Bs lost just one match in their league but came third on numbers of tries for/against and so qualified for the shield final. They played against a strong Ealing side but due to determined tagging and good support attacking play, they won their final and shield.
Many thanks to all the families who supported our teams and of course to the coaches who proved inspirational: Spike, Peter, Graeme and Andre - not forgetting Nick and Paul who blazed up from Devon to add their support, and David Livingstone and Phil Bowcock, our referees.
Fun in Worthing/Petersfield
Twelve players and parents/families spent the weekend of 12th/13th April on the south coast and played matches in Worthing and Petersfield. Everyone had a great time and our players performed well, winning and drawing their matches. Many thanks to Peter Fulcher for arranging the fixtures and well done to all who came along!!
Tournament Success!
OUR TWO UNDER 8 B TEAMS PLAYED GOOD RUGBY at the Beaconsfield 'B' tournament on Sunday 9th March against teams from Beaconsfield, Chinnor, Henley and Bicester. We were lucky with the weather and everyone played well. Particular thanks to our valiant coaches, Graeme Wood and Paul Bowe - and to Phil Bowcock who nobly stepped forward to referee matches. Congratulations to all our medal winners!
WELL DONE TO THE UNDER 8 TEAMS who travelled (at short notice) to High Wycombe on Saturday 9th February to compete in the Eden Tag Tournament involving teams from Chipping Norton, Chinnor, High Wycombe, Beaconsfield, Henley, Marlow, Egham, Chesham and Amersham & Chiltern. The A-squad did brilliantly, unbeaten in all their matches and tournament winners! The B-squad fought valiantly against a very strong A side from Chipping Norton in their semi-final but didn't make it through to the final this time. Many thanks to everyone who joined in - the weather was fantastic and contributed to a great morning.
OUR FANTASTIC A TEAM WON AT SARACENS ON SUNDAY 11 NOVEMBER! - The team was unbeaten in the pool and beat a strong Sandal team 5-4 in the final. The B-squad travelled to Maidenhead and our two teams, Reds and Blues, played good attacking and defensive rugby, beating the Maidenhead teams. The Blue team were eventual victors in a tight fought derby between the two Amersham teams....
Congratulations to both teams who played brilliantly in the Club Mini Tournament (October 14th). The U8A team was unbeaten and finished as Runners Up to a strong London Irish team who drew fewer games. U8Bs were group Winners, beating local rivals Beaconsfield into second place.
Thank you to all those parents who helped to make the tournament such a great success - in particular thank you to Paul Moore, Malcolm Newton, Andy Thompson, Martin Grundy and Philip Doyle who helped park all the cars AND helped pick up the cones afterwards! - and to Andre for donning an orange jacket and directing traffic. Thank you too to Peter Leane and Charlotte Reynolds who came on Saturday morning to help set the cones out (and again to Peter for helping clear them away afterwards) and to Katie Turrell for delivering lots of residents' letters - car parking was our responsibility and it all went very smoothly (also ably assisted by volunteers from U7s - Sue Deane - and U12s - Clive Greenstreet - many many thanks!).
Well done to everyone who came to training on April 13th - and thanks to Spike for leading it
