END OF SEASON BBQ AND AWARDS
- open for ALL PLAYERS/PARENTS/FAMILIES - please come along to the Club between 4:30 and 6:30 (BYO food!!)
WALES TOUR - what a fantastic weekend! The sun shone on us in Wales when 22 players and parents travelled to Cardigan area for a short tour on April 17/18. Many thanks to the two rugby clubs that hosted us: Aberaeron and Newcastle Emlyn - all matches played in with great enthusiasm and good spirit - and to Alec Thomas, who'd arranged the matches but unfortunately was marooned in Milan due to volcanic ash. One of our players was also unable to make the tour - as had been on a school trip to Spain but couldn't get back because of the flight cancellations - next time James!
Sunday 11th April - HOME: High Wycombe - usual time 10 'til 12. Please would anyone who hasn't replied to availability for Aylesbury tournament (April 25th) and end of season BBQ please confirm to Jane ASAP.
Sunday 28th March -
- MARLOW TOURNAMENT - we took two squads to Marlow, although a number of our players were on a school ski trip and therefor unavailable (hope the snow was good!). The standard of competition was very high, with neither team making it through to the play-offs - in spite of the A team winning one and drawing one of their pool matches (losing out on points for/against) - splendid effort from all the players!
Sunday 21st March - HOME: Chess Valley and Drifters - a great home fixture in very pleasant weather conditions! Many thanks to all those who came along to play, coach and support - from all teams, and particularly Phil B, Nick and Spike for enthusiastic coaching ... AWAY: Richmond A tournament - good news that the weather favoured us this year! Our team battled against strong opposition - winning one of our 4 matches and fighting hard in the remaining games - a very competitive event by all accounts - well done!
Sunday 14th March - Mothering Sunday
- TRAINING - at home - usual time 10 'til 12. Please would anyone who hasn't replied to availability for Marlow tournament (March 28th) please confirm to Jane ASAP.
Sunday 7th March BEACONSFIELD FESTIVAL -
- well done to the squad that travelled to Beaconsfield - after a faltering start, the team started to pull together, winning and drawing the third and fourth matches. Great tries from James Smith - and Matt Shraga is ripping king! Good support from all players - including some splendid tackling and passing.
Sunday 28th February
TRAINING IS CANCELLED DUE TO WATERLOGGED PITCHES. Would anyone who is available to play in the Marlow tournament (28th March) but who has not let us know please contact Jane/Peter as soon as possible.
Sunday 21st February AWAY FIXTURE AT WASPS (ACTON) A small but enthusiastic group of players made it on the last weekend of half term - well done to all!!

Sunday 31 January - *** AWAY FIXTURE FOR ALL AT MARLOW IS CANCELLED AND THERE WILL BE NO ALTERNATIVE TRAINING***
Sunday 24th January - A squad of 15 players will travel to Windsor to take part in a four-way development fixture (all have been notified). Remaining players will be at Amersham to train/play a squad from Chesham Prep. Usual time in both cases: 10 'til 12.
Sunday 17th January - *TRAINING AT BEACON SCHOOL SPORTS HALL* - please wear suitable clothing, including non-marking soles - and parking is likely to be at the side of the school.
Sunday 3rd January 2010 - ** TRAINING CANCELLED ** DUE TO FROZEN PITCHES
Sunday 13th December - Development tournament (Windsor, away) and Aylesbury fixture (home)
Another dry Sunday! - though it was a bit on the chilly side!! Well done to all our players, both at Amersham (where our teams performed very strongly against Aylesbury) and Windsor (where some players had an outstanding day - all winners!)
One minor gripe - please would anyone who isn't able to play when we have a fixture or tournament please let Jane/Peter know in advance so that we can make sure there are sufficient players AND that everyone gets a chance to play in tournament/competition.
Sunday December 6th - Reading Abbey - Away
Following cancellation of last week's training, this week we travelled to Reading Abbey and played a three-way fixture with Reading Abbey and Basingstoke. Unfortunately a combination of flu, injury and concern over the weather meant that we numbered just 21 this week - but those players pulled together brilliantly with determined tackling and team spirit. All the matches were close - just a try or two in it and everyone who went played their part - as well as the weather which was cool but lovely and sunny (and the ground was reasonably soft after all the rain!!). Many thanks to Reading Abbey for hosting this festive fixtureand of course to our coaches - and parents - for their continued support and enthusiasm.
Sunday November 22nd - Development tournament
We held a very successful - if wet and windy - tournament for development squads at all age groups from four clubs on Sunday 22nd: Amersham & Chiltern, Beaconsfield, Windsor and Tring. All the players contributed to some great rugby - and many thanks to Peter for initiating this event. On Sunday 29th November we will be training at Amersham.
Sunday November 8th - Chesham/Amersham
On Sunday 15 of our players travelled to Chesham for joint training followed by a couple of matches - a great opportunity for some of our recent joiners to play competitively for the Club! The remaining 30 players trained at Amersham - practising ball skills and tackling!!
On Sunday November 15th we will be sending two squads to the Saracens tournament - further information to follow!
Beaconsfield tournament - Sunday November 1st
Sadly the clear skies and sunshine we had hoped for didn't materialise - instead we had torrential rain and strong winds - luckily our tent, sponsored by Chiltern Transport, held out well! Our A team won all their matches and the U10A cup - brilliant play - well done to all! Our B team won against Windsor, drew against Wallingford, the eventual U10B winners, and lost to Beaconsfield in the final match - but played fantastically in horrible conditions and did some wonderful tackling!! Many thanks to Andy and Andre running the As and Peter and Graeme with the Bs.
Please note that the club kit is now stocked by Hawkinsports of Bourne End (tel: 01628 819242) although their stocks are very limited at present. If anyone has spare shorts/tops please take them along on Sunday. Next week we are playing at Chesham, although it is possible that some players will be at Amersham - we'll keep you posted!
Amersham tournament - Sunday October 11th
Congratulations to both our teams who played some good rugby - the Bs played some very close matches with winning margins being just one try either way - and the As played well to finish runners up to a very strong Beaconsfield side - it came down to the last try of the last match!! Thank you to all our coaches - and to the parents who helped out on the sweet stall which was very successful, raising £460 on the day - a fantastic achievement!
Windsor tournament - Sunday October 4th
We took two squads (A and B) to play in the first tournament of the season at Windsor - and the sun shone! Whilst we didn't come away with any medals this time, all players and coaches gave their all to pull off some splendid performances - the B-team were unlucky not to progress after a last-minute try from Richmond cost them a place in the cup final - and the A-team fought hard against Richmond and Worthing, only to lose out to a couple of break-away tries.
Now we're looking ahead to our Club tournament on October 11th - and hoping the weather will be as kind as it was in Windsor!
Welcome back to a new season
We had a great season in 2008-09 and have been sorry to see some of our players move on - but pleased to welcome a number of new faces!
All new players are welcome - we will be training at Amersham during September from 10:00 'til 12:00 on Sunday morning - try to arrive early as you'll find parking easier and we're warming up from 9:50.
REMEMBER YOUR MOUTHGUARDS ('GUMSHIELDS') - A PROPERLY FITTING MOUTHGUARD IS ESSENTIAL
