REDINGENSIANS 56 - 5 AMERSHAM & CHILTERN
Another tough week for Chiltern as they took on 2nd placed Redingensians. Chiltern are still without several regulars in key positions but competed well throughout the game only to concede 3 late converted tries, when down to 13 players, which made the scoreboard look far worse than the team deserved.
Redingensians were a big, well drilled side who have been together in this league for the last 4 years. Their interplay and power running was excellent and although Chiltern defended well Redingensians built a 29-0 half time lead.
Several yellow cards were issued, one against Chiltern in the first half and three against Redingensians in the second half as Chiltern’s defence repeatedly frustrated the opposition. Unfortunately an untimely piece of retaliation led to a red card for debutant Mike Gallagher, and with all subs used, a dead leg to Dwayne Polataivao, saw Chiltern reduced to 13 players for the last 20 minutes. Even then Chiltern managed a good try from Ross Bugden and it was only in the last five minutes of the game that Redingensians capitalised on their numerical superiority to score 19 unanswered points.
This league is every bit as competitive as expected but Chiltern are improving consistently and look forward to welcoming bottom of the table Bridgwater and Albion to Weedon Lane on Saturday.
