Hertford 6th XV 34 - 5 Amersham & Chiltern 4th XV

A tough game for the 4s which they lost 34-5. The day did not start well for the team as they lost a prop at the meet time and travelled 1 player short. Fortunately in the spirit of the league Hertford were able to provide a prop and we started 15 players each.
A tremendous 1st half in which Chilts battled strongly although out scummaged looked like reaching half time 8-5 to Hertford when the referee gave a most amazing decision which resulted in 7 points to Hertford to give them a 15-5 half time lead. The referee had the good grace to admit after the game he had misunderstand the law and it should have been a penalty to Chiltern not a try. Also just before half time we lost Tom Pye who badly dislocated a finger. We wish him well.
The 2nd half proved to be very difficult for Chiltern as Hertford heavier pack took control of the game and deprived Chiltern of any decent ball. However Chiltern defended stoutly and limited Hertford to 3 tries for their 34-5 win.
With a number of the regular older 4th team players unavailable the 4th team had a stangely young look about it which agurs well for the future.Only Mark Williams and Pete Kenyon of the old guard played. Chiltern's try was scored by 18 year old debutant Ross Wilson.
