COLTS BEAT BRACKNELL 40-0 IN NATIONAL KO CUP

Amersham & Chiltern Colts put on a fine display for a good home crowd today when they demolished Bracknell 40-0 in the 3rd round of the National Colts Cup. The win puts them in the last 32 of the competition, the next round to be played on January 25th.
Playing with the breeze and drizzle in the first half the Colts gave an almost faultless performance from the kick off right up to the half time whistle. Fly half Smalley continually turned the Bracknell defence with astute kicking or released the three quarters who showed excellent handling skills in sticky conditions. However, the pack deserve the plaudits for tremendous work at the set pieces and at the break down to ensure Bracknell were starved of any quality ball. Six tries were scored in the first 35 mins by Maw (after a deft kick through by Smalley), Rice (brilliantly finishing off a good handling move), Thornton (thundering down the blind side from a driving maul), Jackson (showing great speed to punish a loose clearance kick), Morrison (showing his strength to drive over from close range) and Reus (breaking from a ruck to outpace the cover defence). John converted 5 to give a half time score of 40-0.
The second half saw Bracknell step up their efforts and make good use of the breeze to pin Chiltern back time and time again - helped by a huge penalty count in their favour. However, the resolve shown to keep them out with fantastic defence was almost as satisfying as the first half scores. We were unable to quite get away to add to the scoreline but this was an impressive performance by the whole squad.
SQUAD: Davies, Rice, Maw, Jackson, John, Smalley, Reus, Kenyon, Shaw, Szwagrzak, Rogers, Morrison, Thornton, Vialls, Smith, Jones, Ripper, Telford, Imbriano, Craggs, Biggins.
